UNITED HEALTHCARE, Optum Health UI/UX

By James Kwon

The Challenge:

Self-Insured Companies rely on UnitedHealthcare and Optum Health to keep employees healthy, and costs low. One of the innovative ways that Optum does this is through a physical brand extension, the OptIn room. Running the OptIn room can be expensive, and there was no interactive counterpart for the entire program. Posters and clipboards were the only way that employees accessed information on upcoming events, groups and seminars.

The Solution:

In conjunction with Medulan, Figmints scoped a new way to introduce employees to the healthy living social media platform that was desperately needed. The metaphor of posters was used again through interactive poster windows that conveniently came across the users’ screen. These “digital posters” had the ability to showcase videos, display quick survey questions as well as simply inform for upcoming events. The bright and exciting user interface gave a refreshed presence that Optum had in their own company, moreover the entire application can be skinned just by changing a main color and background image for any of their subsidiary clients for licensing purposes.

The Result:

Figmints scoped a new way to introduce employees to the healthy living social media platform that was desperately needed. The metaphor of posters was used again through interactive poster windows that conveniently came across the users’ screen. These “digital posters” had the ability to showcase videos, display quick survey questions as well as simply inform for upcoming events. The site had stickiness that allowed users to check for new content, and challenged them to live healthier and more fully, on a daily basis. Users can challenge each other with fun events that inspired all the forms of healthy living including financial, physical, mental, and spiritual.

We also created a brand new way that users can see an immediate view of their progress by inventing a new recording system that kept users engaged and challenged as they progressed. No one should ever feel like they’re done when they reach their goals – instead, they set new goals, unlock further challenges and gain even better rewards. This internal portal system quickly became an accessible way for, not only Optum to use for their own corporate healthy-living culture, but an easily brandable way to resell the internal system for other major corporations like Target and Staples.
