Higher education / Field guide 02

The finance office updates tuition. Who updates the program page? Have the office that owns the official rate approve the number. Name a program-page editor to maintain the year, fees and source link.

A tuition number can help someone decide whether to inquire. It can also become wrong after the finance office changes rates. Decide how you will maintain it before adding another copy.

Choose a publishing approach you can maintain

Cost publishing options: estimated total, unit rate, official tuition link; every approach needs an editor and review date.

An estimated program total

A total gives the visitor a quick ballpark. Confirm the credit count, required fees and academic year, and identify who approves changes. Label estimates and explain what they exclude.

A per-credit or per-class rate

A unit price needs context. Explain how many credits or classes the program normally requires, and distinguish tuition from additional costs. The page editor needs a review date and an approved source for the amount.

A link to central tuition information

A central page gives the university one official rate source. Label the link so the reader knows what to expect, and make sure it lands on the relevant program or rate table.

Two public examples of cost ownership

In our October 25, 2026 public-page review, Brown’s Healthcare Leadership admissions page directed readers to Student Financial Services for current tuition and fees. URI’s MBA @ Pfizer admission page displayed per-class tuition on the page itself. We rechecked those source passages on October 30, 2026.

Either approach can work if someone owns the update and the visitor understands what the rate covers. These observations describe public pages, not Figmints’ work for either program. We have not measured the effect of these approaches on inquiries or enrollment.

Figmints’ higher-education website work includes graduate-division websites for Northeastern University. Cost content is one part of the four answers a working adult needs before deciding whether a program fits.

A tuition number is useful only while someone owns the update.

Leave a maintenance record

Tuition maintenance record: official source and year, approving office, named editor and next review date.

Keep the rate-source URL, approving office and next review date with the page’s editorial notes. When the official rate changes, check every place the program repeats it. If you cannot keep a copy current, link to the maintained source and tell the visitor what they will find there.

Once the page answers the cost question, check the inquiry handoff to admissions. A useful page needs both current information and a route to the right team.
